How to Survive the Current Economic Crisis

The financial crisis that developed on Wall Street in the fall of 2008 is unlike anything I’ve seen in my career. No one seems to have the answers, even though everyone is trying to figure out what the crisis means.

A new book, Financial Armageddon by Pastor John Hagee, provides answers from the Word of God. Hagee is a powerful minister whose preaching and teaching put difficult times into perspective for Christians, and he has great insight into the meaning of current events from a biblical view. For example, when oil prices skyrocketed in mid-2008, Hagee prepared a teaching series titled “The Oil Crisis and the Road to Armageddon.” The response to the series was more than double what is usually expected. I believe the existing crisis is so important that I encouraged our Strang Book Group to rush this book into print. It appeared on bookstore shelves only six weeks after we conceived the idea—a time frame that is almost unheard of in publishing circles. It went on sale in Wal-Mart on Tuesday and in other chains last week. It's so important that I encouraged our team to rush the book out in a record amount of time.

Before I get into my own observations about the financial situation, I want to call to your attention to a report at the end of this e-newsletter from Janet Folger Porter, founder and president of Faith2Action, who is calling on Congress to answer the question of where Barack Obama was born. I tend to discount her claim that he is ineligible to serve as president due to his place of birth because I don't feel Obama could have gotten this far and been elected if he were not an American citizen. But there are persistent questions about it that could be put to rest if Congress would investigate as they investigate many other important issues. I'm passing the report along mostly for your information.

The financial problems we are currently experiencing have a greater significance than a typical credit crunch or mortgage crisis. They are a precursor to a tremendous battle that will take place at what the Bible calls Armageddon (see Rev. 16:14,16). In order to understand them, we must learn to discern the times, as the sons of Issachar did in biblical days (see 1 Chron. 12:32), and view them in light of the Word of God.

As a businessman, I take great interest in Hagee’s book. What happens on Wall Street or in international markets affects me and those who work with me. Plus, I have some investments in the stock market for my retirement years, and I don’t want to see them wiped out. Whether you own a business as I do or work for someone else, I know you too want to understand what is going on.

Let me give you my perspective. I may be able to help you comprehend something about what the media sometimes hysterically call a financial meltdown.

The stock market has plummeted before, and I believe it will recover. So I’m not planning to revamp my stock portfolio. I expect the value of the stocks to increase in the future. I still remember the dot-com bubble that burst a few years ago, the recession of 1992, and the terrible “stagflation” of the 1970s when I was just beginning my career.

Our current situation has come as no surprise. Considering some of the bad loans that were made, the creative instruments Wall Street created, and the overblown real estate market, it was only a matter of time until something drastic happened to correct the mistakes. But the panic that has set in has made the problems worse, even though our federal government has spent billions of dollars to try to stabilize the market.

I think we can expect that America will come out of this bear market and financial slump just as it has before. But every time we experience a downturn, people want our government to do more. Year by year we become more of an international market, depending on international banks to help stabilize the financial situation. If it doesn’t improve, people panic.

When people panic, they look for a strong leader who will give them what they want and make their financial problems go away. Do you see the pattern that develops? A global economy and global crises make people yearn for a global leader to solve their problems. Suddenly you have the scenario the Bible says leads to the rise of a man called the Antichrist, who leads us into the Battle of Armageddon!

If you don’t think this is possible, look at history. It was the terrible inflation and financial problems after World War I in Germany that made the people turn to Hitler. Not only could it happen again, but according to the Bible, it will happen again.

That’s why it’s important to understand what is going on. All of us are at risk because we live in a complex, world-financial system that causes us to be dependent on others to provide the groceries we buy and deliver the gas we put in our cars. We are dependent on others to have the money to buy the goods and services we sell or to pay our paychecks. When any part of the system breaks down, we are vulnerable like everyone else. Period.

So we must do what we can not only to survive but also to thrive in difficult economic situations such as the current bear market on Wall Street, which may be part of the bigger financial Armageddon that is coming.

The first step is to rein in our fear. Financial crisis can lead to collapse simply because people become afraid and panic. We must understand that God’s Word is true whether stocks are up or down and whether credit is tight or abundant.

Long before President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in his 1933 inaugural address, said in reference to the depressed economic condition of our nation, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself,” God Himself had given us the admonition not to fear. He said through the prophet Isaiah, “‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you. … When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. … Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you” (Is. 43:1–4, NKJV).

Next we must understand that there are different levels of economic problems. The first is a normal negative cycle in the markets. Such cycles come and go, and things usually get better. But at the same time, they set us up for a greater danger, what author Larry Bates calls “the new economic disorder,” in which world banks control the money, cartels control oil, and evil leaders set the scenario for the coming Antichrist.

When Armageddon comes, no one will escape it, because world events will crash together with biblical prophecy in the final conflict of the ages, as Hagee explains in his book. Ye there is hope for believers who understand that the Rapture will take away Christians “in the twinkling of an eye.”

Of course, it’s that knowledge that has also led generations of Christians to be passive and simply wait for the Second Coming to whisk them away from all the troubles of the world. Their attitude is like that of the preacher who joked, “It’s easier to think about the ‘sweet by-and-by’ than it is to deal with the nasty now-and-now.”

Maybe the problems we’re experiencing will wake up the church. Maybe godly leaders will emerge in government and the economic community to provide answers based on the principles of God’s Word that will change the tide or at least slow it down.

Some Christians in the world—believers in the Sudan, Communist China, or India, where there has been so much violence against Christians, or in the Muslim world where Christianity is banned—may think Armageddon has already begun. Americans, on the other hand, believe they are somehow immune. They think, Surely these problems won’t happen to us. We’ve been blessed with relative peace and prosperity so long we believe they are our rights. Yet bad things can happen and are happening. As the leader of the free world, America is not exempt.

Consider 9/11. We never thought we would be attacked on our own soil, but we were. I believe many other events that have been prophesied will take place, and we can only prepare.

As people the world over become more and more hostile to the gospel, and as those who are evil get into power and take away our freedoms, Christians must do what the Jews did in Europe, where they were persecuted for years—engage in professions and trades we can take with us when things get bad. The trend that developed during those years explains why many Jews are in banking, jewelry and so on rather than farming today.

So what can Christians do? Start businesses. Get involved in the process to change things rather than being subject to the whims of big business.

Then run your small business in a way that can handle a downturn. Have reserves; keep debt low; make fallback plans. In the process, be able to help others as the Bible says.

Too often Christians, like the men Moses sent to spy out the Promised Land (Num. 13:32–33), have seen themselves as grasshoppers in their own eyes—in this case, as being at the bottom of the economic totem pole just waiting for the Rapture. This image is not accurate, and the Bible has answers for the mess we’re in. That’s why Hagee’s book is so important. Read it and share it with friends. Follow the advice he gives.

Remember that, no matter what happens, we are to do as the nobleman in the Bible instructed his servants, and “occupy till [our Master] come[s]” (Luke 19:13, KJV).

Former Deputy Attorney General Philip Berg filed a lawsuit addressing the citizenship status of Barack Obama before the Democratic National Convention and copied Democratic Chairman Howard Dean. It should have alerted them that there was a possible problem before they selected their nominee. But that problem was ignored. Other lawsuits filed before Nov. 4 were also ignored, placing us in what could be a constitutional crisis.

The good news is the real election hasn't taken place yet. The Electoral College doesn't meet until Dec. 15. That gives us less than a month to find the answers to the looming questions regarding whether Barack Obama meets the constitutional requirements for the office of president.

The courts don't seem to be in any hurry to take up their responsibility as guardians of the Constitution, so now Congress must step in. You see, members of Congress are sworn to uphold the Constitution, and when they vote in January to confirm (or reject) the vote of the Electoral College, they can't very well do that unless they know for certain that the basic constitutional requirements for office have been met.

An ad running this week in the Washington Times Weekly asks three questions America needs to know: "Was Barack Obama really born in Kenya?" "Is he really a citizen of Indonesia?" And, "Does the Constitution still matter?"

As I wrote about last week, there are many reasons to doubt whether Barack Obama meets the requirements for the office of president. First, there's that pesky tape from Sarah Obama, Barack's grandmother, where she says, "I was in the delivery room in (Mombosa) Kenya when he was born Aug. 4, 1961." Secondly, there's the matter of U.S. law. If only one parent was an American citizen, as in Obama's case, the law at the time of Obama's birth required one parent to have been an American citizen for at least 10 years – five of which had to have happened after the age of 14. Since Obama's mother was only 18 at the time of Obama's birth, he would not qualify as an American citizen if his grandmother is right about him being born abroad.

Thirdly, there's no original birth certificate – just a "certification of live birth" posted on a website experts say is forged and altered. Fourthly, there's the issue of Indonesian citizenship, which is a prerequisite to attending school there. Add to that the fact that Obama's stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, is listed as his father on his Indonesian school records. If he had U.S. citizenship, according to Indonesian law, he would have lost it when he attended school there or if he was adopted by his stepfather as his records indicate.

As the ad proclaims, "The Constitution matters" and is still worth defending. All we are asking is that Congress takes their oath to defend it seriously. If Obama can prove he meets the basic but essential constitutional requirements, fine, he'll serve legally. But if he cannot provide simple proof, then he cannot. We're not asking for the world here, just the original birth certificate that each of us delivers when getting a passport, driver's license or Social Security card. If we can't tell the clerk at the post office to check out the digital photo of a certificate posted online, neither should the guy running for president. Members of Congress: If you have taken an oath to defend the Constitution, now's the time to keep it.

But I know the reasons for your hesitancy. I've faced them myself and have come to the conclusion that if one of our founders, Patrick Henry, could proclaim, "Give me liberty or give me death," we can face our fears and stand for the document they penned that outlines our God-given rights to freedom. What if we asked our Founding Fathers, many of whom lost everything in the battle for our nation, if they think the Constitution is still worth defending? They already answered that question with their lives.

But what about the objections?

  1. "Obama won the popular election." So did Al Gore. But George W. Bush is still president. That's because the Electoral College decides – and in this case, it hasn't yet. In fact, the electors can't fulfill their solemn oath to uphold the Constitution unless they know the candidates meet the basic constitutional requirements for office.
  2. "This should have happened long before now." That's true, but the cases filed before Nov. 4 were ignored by the courts, and the answers to these basic questions were never answered. There is still time for those answers since the real election has not yet happened.
  3. "They'll be riots in the streets." This objection is much like the reaction of Kenya to Obama's candidate of choice, Raila Odinga, who incited violence and the burning of hundreds of churches (not a single mosque) when he lost the race. Obama raised a million dollars for this upstanding guy and assigned a Senate staffer to help him. To bring the violence to an end, the Kenyan government put Odinga – the guy who lost the election – in office to keep him from burning more churches. They failed the first rule of the playground: Confront the bully; don't appease him. Threats of violence must be met with fierce resistance, not appeasement.
  4. "I better not be public on this because I'll become a target." News flash: If you believe in life, liberty and the family, you already are a target. The henchmen are selected; the gallows for our freedoms are already being built. And the only candidate in history to never move an inch to the center during the campaign has no intentions of changing his agenda of outlawing our viewpoint with the "unfairness doctrine," "thought crimes," "The Employment Non Discrimination Act" the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act and all the rest. As I wrote about in my book, "The Criminalization of Christianity" (which will surely come true if we don't act now), "Never fail to do the right thing for fear that the opposition will attack you in response. The other side can and will attack you anyway, at a time of their own choosing rather than yours, regardless of whether you act."
  5. "We'll just beat him in four years." In four years, we won't be able to recognize what's left of our country. And if you think taking on this issue right now is hard, try doing it when our radio airwaves are shut down and our freedoms are stripped from us, as he has promised to do. And with Obama's promise to pass the so-called Freedom of Choice Act as "the first thing" he does, you can say goodbye to the notion of protecting unborn children again – and goodbye to every law in all 50 states that notifies parents, keeps our tax dollars from footing the abortion bill and prevents even a single partial-birth abortion.
  6. "They'll say I'm a 'racist' and call it 'sour grapes.'" Our Founding Fathers faced death, we face name-calling. Right now our U.S. soldiers are being shot at for the freedoms guaranteed in our Constitution. If the Constitution isn't worth undergoing some name calling, then the oath taken to defend it means nothing.
  7. "Somebody else will do it." They haven't. And time is running out.
  8. "It's not my responsibility." The lower court in Philadelphia threw out Phil Berg's case (which is now before the U.S. Supreme Court) based not on the merits, but on the issue of "standing," and pointed to the need for Congress to act. If the questions of constitutionality are not met before Congress is called upon to uphold the vote of the Electoral College, they cannot fulfill their oath and duty to uphold and defend the Constitution. If we are willing to ignore the constitutional requirements for the highest office in our land, what else are we willing to forgo? That part about free speech? Freedom of the press? Freedom of religion?
  9. "We deserve what we got." That's true, so did the people of Nineveh who asked, "Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish?" If you're unfamiliar with the story recorded in Jonah, God didn't give the Ninevites what they deserved; and even though the judgment was pronounced against them, when they fasted, prayed, sought God and turned from their wicked ways, God had mercy and spared them from judgment.
  10. "It's impossible." With God, all things are possible. Eight years ago the election was called for Al Gore, and he never took office. If God is the same today as He was yesterday, He can still split the sea, raise the dead, stop the sun and reverse the results of the popular vote if the basic requirements of the Constitution are not met in the candidate.
  11. "He's constitutionally qualified." Great. Then it won't be hard to prove it.

The Electoral College votes on Dec. 15 – we now have less than 30 days of freedom left. How will you spend it? Will you "safely" keep quiet about our nation's most important document, or will you step forward to defend it?

There's a replica of William Wallace's sword hanging on my wall. It reminds me of his words captured in the movie "Braveheart":

William Wallace: I am William Wallace. And I see a whole army of my countrymen, here in defiance of tyranny. You've come to fight as freemen, and freemen you are. What will you do without freedom? Will you fight?

Man: No … we will run … and we will live.

William Wallace: Aye. Fight and you may die. Run and you'll live – at least a while. And, dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies, that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!

Congress, you were elected for such a time as this. Don't miss your moment in history to defend the Constitution you were sworn to uphold. Not extreme. Not fringe. Just constitutional. A thorough investigation must be conducted to ensure the basic constitutional requirements for the office of president have been met. It is not just your right – it is your duty. And you have less than 30 days to act. You have the freedom right now that you will never have again. You can fight to defend the Constitution of the United States, or you can run. As William Wallace asked, the question is: Will you fight?

  1. Call your representative in Congress at 202-224-3121 and ask them to hold immediate congressional hearings to investigate and ensure the basic constitutional requirements for the office of president have been met.
  2. Fast and pray.
  3. Place the "Three Unanswered Questions" ad in newspapers across the country and post it online everywhere.
  4. Donate to defend the Constitution. We'll place more ads if you'll help: www.f2a.org.
  5. E-mail this to everyone on your list, and call on the media to report this constitutional crisis.

    From the repudiated allegations re Odinga support to the "forged" birth certificate, there is more falsity in this diatribe than one has time to address. If you cannot accept the judgment of the State of Hawaii and prefer that the federal Congress overrule the state of Hawaii solely to achieve your goal of McCain's (born in Panama) election then you might prefer the electoral system of a different non-democratic country. This is a terrible witness.

    A post-script re the worldwide financial system. This is largely the result of the adoption of "free trade" policies which seek to override national borders and so-called "protectionist" policies. Commenters should research which political candidates and party are the strongest proponent of free trade policies before posting on this topic.

At first you claim you don't thnk President-Elect Obama isn't a US. citizen and yet you proceed to pass on this garbage. That's an old high school tactic kids have used for ages. It is called throwing the brick but hiding your hands.

    I am cancelling my subscription to your magazine. You have lost your way and are bitter, hateful and mean. What is really telling is that if your nasty rumor was fact you know a Democrat would still be president, Joe Biden, but I guess that's okay because he is white.

    You are making a mockery of Christianty and hurting efforts to win people for the Kingdom of God. Shame on you!

    Hurry up and find another bogus accusation to throw out there just in case this one about where Obama was born doesn't pan out. If it doesn't there will still be those who just can't "let go and let God". In case they don't know--God is bigger than any president or king of any nation. Let God complete His own plan for mankind. Obama will not make the plans and purposes of God null an void. As a matter of fact He is able to turn Obama's heart whichever way He wishes. After all, the Bible tells us that no matter the plans of man God's plan will prevail. Are some people still so afraid of Obama that they will stop at nothing to keep him out of the White House? Frankly, I think the main fear is that he just might make a great president--and who wants to admit after all of this ugliness that they may have judged unfairly and are found to have been wrong in their assessment of our next president. On the other hand, if you're right--God is still on His throne and "whatever will be will be"............

    I have always held you in very high esteem but this is overboard. i am cancelling my subsciption to your newsletter and of course once my subscription is done with the magazine , i am also cancelling that. You probably agree wit the lady that said on national TV that Obama is an Arab! I am sure that you guys will probably probe and investigate him to see if he can be impeached.
    I hope the Lord opens all your eyes to see the truth. I believe we also have this same problems in 1992 when Bill Clinton won!I remember that He was even called the antchrist. The congress cannot turn the will of the people away. That is why this is a democracy!!. I hope you are all praying fior him because He is God's will for our time.

    It saddened me to read all of the article and I agreed with most of the other posts.....yet, if there is even the slightest doubt, why wouldn't this be thoroughly responded to with provable documents...it doesn't seem that hard to do, unless...and that's the problem, people will question if you don't simply bring forth the truth...the verifiable, incontrovertible truth. And let the shame fall on the accusers if that be the case.

    Strange that such a reasonable request by an employer should be met with such an outcry. I just hired a guy to run my country and now I want to see proof that he didn't lie to me before the electoral vote goes in. Any responsible employer would want the same. I would be asked to provide documents for any important job that I was hired for, so why is he balking? It is Mr. Obama who is making this into a big deal by not producing the proof and I resent that from him. Unless, of course, he has no proof. If this turns out to be true--and it is beginning to look that way to me just by his reluctance to give this simple and reasonable documentation--was it also unlawful for him to be serving in the Senate? Just wondering about the legality of that also. As far as him being God's will for our time, God handed men the responsibility of governing this earth when it was created, so I think the least I can do is see to my own hiring practices. God will give us what we ask for in our government. Every business in my country will be affected by the guy I hire to sit in the White House and I expect him to be courteous enough to prove to me he is eligable for the job.

    Anyway, thanks for passing this on, Steve. It is never wrong to pass on what the media refuses to when it comes to our security. I, for one, am prepared to feel foolish for hiring him in the first place, if this turns out to be true, but will be glad to have caught the mistake in time to avoid even further humiliation before the entire world.

    I'm so ashamed of you, I think the only reason you said that you think President Elect Obama is a US citizen is to make yourself look good. If this was your true feelings you would have never posted that article. I have been paying attention to some of your articles and I can say that you are inciting the readers to adapt your views in a suttle way. But do know for sure man cannot abort the plans of God, and if President Elect Obama is God's choice no one can Kill or impeach him, he will accomplish all that God has purposed for him to do for this country. I pray that you ask God to search you and know your heart like David once asked God to do for him, this way He will let you know if there are any wicked ways in you. And yes I think you are trying to promote Pastor Hagee's book.

    Wow!! What an article. It appears to me this question is legitimate "Is President Elect Barack Obama constitutionally qualified to be president." If so, looks like it should be proven and this question put to rest.

    If Raila Odinga did as stated in this article and Obama supported him why didn't a flag arise in the hearts of the christians that voted for Obama when Hollywood supported him so strongly, as did the media, and his strong stand against so many issues that Christians are suppose to stand for?

    It seems that Barack Obama is not qualified to be president after all for
    the following reason:

    Barack Obama is not legally a U.S. natural-born citizen according to the
    law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between "December
    24, 1952 to November 13, 1986." Presidential office requires a
    natural-born citizen if the child was not born to two U.S. citizen
    parents, which of course is what exempts John McCain though he was born in
    the Panama Canal. US Law very clearly stipulates: "If only one parent was
    a U.S. citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in
    the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be
    after the age of 16." Barack Obama's father was not a U.S. citizen and
    Obama's mother was only 18 when Obama was born, which means though she had
    been a U.S. citizen for 10 years, (or citizen perhaps because of Hawaii
    being a territory) the mother fails the test for being so for at least 5
    years **prior to** Barack Obama's birth, but *after* age 16. It doesn't
    matter *after* . In essence, she was not old enough to qualify her son for
    automatic U.S. citizenship. At most, there were only 2 years elapsed since
    his mother turned 16 at the time of Barack Obama's birth when she was 18
    in Hawaii. His mother would have needed to have been 16+5= 21 years old,
    at the time of Barack Obama's birth for him to have been a natural-born
    citizen. As aforementioned, she was a young college student at the time
    and was not. Barack Obama was already 3 years old at that time his mother
    would have needed to have waited to have him as the only U.S. Citizen
    parent. Obama instead should have been naturalized, but even then, that
    would still disqualify him from holding the office.

    *** Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President.

    *** Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, all the other
    info does not matter because his mother is the one who needed to have been
    a U.S. citizen for 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5
    of those years being after age 16. Further, Obama may have had to have
    remained in the country for some time to protect any citizenship he would
    have had, rather than living in Indonesia. Now you can see why Obama's
    aides stopped his speech about how we technically have more than 50
    states, because it would have led to this discovery. This is very clear
    cut and a blaring violation of U.S. election law. I think the Gov. of
    California would be very interested in knowing this if Obama were elected
    President without being a natural-born U.S. citizen, and it would set
    precedence. Stay tuned to your TV sets because I suspect some of this
    information will be leaking through over the next several days.

    Origins: The minimum qualifications for the presidency of the United States
    specified in Article II of the Constitution are few and seemingly
    straightforward: In order to be President, a person must be a natural-born
    citizen of the United States, must be at least thirty-five years old, and must
    have been a resident of the United States for fourteen years.

    These qualifications aren't quite so straightforward as they might seem,
    however. For example, what does the phrase "fourteen years a resident within the
    United States" mean? Can those fourteen years be cumulative, or do they have to
    be consecutive? Do the fourteen years of U.S. residency have to
    immediately precede the presidential election, or can they have occurred at any
    period in a candidate's life? These were issues that confronted Herbert Hoover,
    who, because of his work (first for a British mining firm, and later for the
    U.S. government during World War I), had spent a good deal of time abroad and
    returned to the U.S. less than fourteen years prior to his election to the
    presidency in 1928.

    Likewise, the "natural-born citizen" requirement is not so straightforward
    either, because the Constitution didn't define what a natural-born citizen was.
    (The definition of "natural-born citizen" was left up to individual states to
    decide until the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868, but even that
    amendment has been subject to further interpretation.) What qualifies a person
    for natural-born citizenship status under U.S. law can be quite complicated,
    depending on factors such as where the person was born, when he was born, where
    he and his parents lived, and the nationalities of his parents.

    Some of these factors might seemingly come into play in the case of Democratic
    presidential nominee Barack Obama. Although his mother was herself a
    natural-born U.S. citizen, his father was a Kenyan national, and his parents may
    or may not have been legally married in the eyes of U.S. law. Moreover, his
    parents split up when he was but a toddler, and his mother soon afterwards
    married another foreign national and moved with Barack to Indonesia.

    The item quoted above posits that Barack Obama does not qualify as a
    natural-born citizen of the U.S. because the law in effect at the time he was
    born specified that "If only one parent was a U.S. citizen at the time of your
    birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten
    years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16." Since Barack Obama
    only had one U.S. citizen parent (his mother), and his mother had not been
    residing in the U.S. for at least five years after the age of 16 when Barack was
    born (because she herself was only 18 at the time), then he's not a natural-born
    citizen.

    A few facets of this claim immediately jump out as being far-fetched: first,
    that a sitting U.S. Senator who has already spent a good deal of time and money
    securing his party's nomination for the presidency would suddenly be discovered
    as ineligible due to an obscure provision of U.S. law; and second, that U.S. law
    would essentially penalize someone who would otherwise qualify for natural-born
    citizenship status simply because his mother was too young. The fact is, the
    qualifications listed in the example quoted above are moot because they refer to
    someone who was born outside the United States. Since Barack Obama was born in
    Hawaii, they do not apply to him.

    The Fourteenth Amendment states that "all persons born or naturalized in the
    United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the
    United States." Since Hawaii is part of the United States, even if Barack
    Obama's parents were both non-U.S. citizens who hadn't even set foot in the
    country until just before he was born, he'd still qualify as a natural-born
    citizen.

    Some have claimed that Barack Obama's Hawaiian birthplace doesn't qualify him as
    a natural-born citizen because Hawaii was not yet a state when he was born. This
    claim is wrong: Hawaii was admitted as the 50th state almost two years before
    Barack Obama's birth there (21 August 1959 for statehood vs. 4 August 1961 for
    Obama's birthdate).

    Some outdated versions of this item conclude by stating that "It should be
    demanded that Obama produce his 1961 Hawaiian birth certificate," but in fact
    his campaign made an image of that document available on the Internet back in
    mid-2008.

    In August 2008, Philadelphia attorney Philip Berg filed suit in U.S. District

    that Obama was actually born in Kenya (not Hawaii) and/or subsequently gave up

    citizenship status of John McCain (who was born in the Panama Canal Zone),
    challenging the Wyoming residency status of Dick Cheney (who was born in Wyoming
    but moved to Texas), and challenging the citizenship status of 1964 Republican
    presidential nominee Barry Goldwater (who was born in Arizona before that
    territory was admitted as a state).

    In August 2008, Philadelphia attorney Philip Berg included claims of a forged certificate (among other rumors) as the basis for a suit in U.S. District Court challenging Barack Obama's eligibility for the presidency on the grounds that Obama was actually born in Kenya (not Hawaii) and/or subsequently gave up his U.S. citizenship and thus does not qualify as a native-born citizen of the U.S. In October 2008 a federal judge dismissed the complaint:


    In a 34-page memorandum and opinion, the judge said Berg's allegations of harm were "too vague and too attenuated" to confer standing on him or any other voters.

    Surrick ruled that Berg's attempts to use certain laws to gain standing to pursue his claim that Obama was not a natural-born citizen were "frivolous and not worthy of discussion."

    The judge also said the harm Berg alleged did "not constitute an injury in fact" and Berg's arguments to the contrary "ventured into the unreasonable."


    Also in October 2008, Hawaiian officials reported that they had personally verified the existence of Barack Obama's original birth certificate:


    State officials say there's no doubt Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.

    Health Department Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino says she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate.

    Fukino says that no state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, ever instructed that Obama's certificate be handled differently from any other.

    She says state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest in it.

    The Christian prophets I've been around all say the country will be almost unrecognizable shortly. The Christians have gotten hooked on mammonism, the occult and pleasure-seeking. God must take our idols away from us. The most important activity for Christians right now is prayer and deliverance for all Christians. Pray for God to give us wisdom, discernment and guidance.
    Everyone loves the promise in 2 Chron 7:13-18. They pray that God would do that for us. They ignore the other promise in 2 Chron 7:19-20. We must avoid the negative promises and abide in the positive promises for us to be blessed.

    The Lord is telling me that when the Christians have nowhere to look for protection, provision, guidance, healing and transformation but up, they will begin to pray. That will be the start of the great revival.

    All of our giant churches are very vulnerable to government influence. We must build small house churches that are not registered for the coming hostile time.

    The Republicans have been spending Dollars like there's not tomorrow. For the Dollar, there is no tomorrow. It is about to go the way of the Continental. End of that idol. But that means we need to learn farming and crafts for barter.

    I ask a simple question: If Presedent-elect Obama were a conservative with the same 'questions' regarding his birthplace, would the Church be so concerned? Sometimes, it seems as if the Church looks the other way when 'conservative' leaders are in office. We abdicate our place of watching over our leaders as citizens of this Republic. We must be ever vigilant in our prayers and scrutiny regardless of the political position of our President.

    Further, we must realize that many of us spent great amounts of time in prayer for this election. Many churches across this nation had all-night prayer meetings. At my pastorate, we had a community prayer service on Monday before the election. If we as believers prayed that God's will would be accomplished, then we must believe that God's will was accopmlished. If we believe the Bible, then we must believe what it says concerning God appointing leaders: "He removes kings and raises up kings" Daniel 2:21b NKJV.

    Now, regarding Mr. Strang's original purpose in this post. In premilllenialism, much labor has been given to America's role in the Last Days. Most 'scholars' see no mention of America in the final events. These are the same writers that most Charismatic, Pentecostal Premillenialists follow. So, if they are writing it, and we, as a movement, are reading it, why are we surprised at the turn of events? If we truly believe that we are living in the Last Days, and if we truly believe what our prophecy writers and teachers are saying, then should we not expect to see the Unitd States become less powerful on the world stage?

    Finally, the American Church needs to re-focus. Our focus should not be on who is in the White House, because has placed them there "for such a time as this." Our focus should not be on the economy because God's plan is unfolding around us. He will sustain us if we focus on Him.

    But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:32

    Our focus should be on Him. No matter who is President, our Commission remains:

    Go therefore and make disciples. Matthew 28:19a NKJV

    This is it. I am through with Charisma. I was really hopeful that after this political madness, there would be some sort of change but its getting worse.

    I enjoyed the magazine or many year and would often share them with my friends or tell them about what I learned from reading Charisma. Now I am ashamed to say I ever supportd Charisma.

    I wil not pay for a subscription that subtley promotes hate and nasty rumors. That is not of God.

    This site is just like the secular sites even worse because there is so much tearing down of our brother and sisters and those in leadership.

    However, far be it from me to sin against the Lord and cease to pray for you. I believe that with prayer your hearts can be changed.

    Steve, every time we try to link current events to the End Times we end up looking like the hobo toting a billboard down the street, saying THE END IS UPON US!!! We are headed in the direction of The End, no doubt about it, and we are closer now than ever before; but to jump from our present economic meltdown to Armageddon is really a stretch for fair minded Believers. It sounds like The Sky Is Falling!!! Every time some group did this in history, it ended up with people sitting on hilltops waiting for Jesus to split the sky. To say this is a "precursor" to Armageddon, without noting that great battle may be in the distant future, gets a lot of good Christians in an unnecessary uproar. It throws fear into people. I'm a bit surprised at you guys. Have you considered that our financial meltdown is nothing more than God's law of sowing and reaping at work? And that if the USA returns to sound financial practices we can come out of this? That's not as exciting as Armageddon, I admit, but it makes a lot more sense. We have been sowing the seeds of this present turmoil for many moons. Now the chickens are coming home to roost. Just for the record: I wish Jesus would return tonight.

    Okay, now I am ready to put in my two cents worth. I have read all of the previous comments and I must say that I am really disgusted with some of you.

    First of all, those of you who are really coming down on Mr. Strang, I must remind you that we do have a constitutional right to freedom of speech. So, Mr. Strang has spoken his piece; and so have you.

    If you want to cancel your subscription, that is your right to do so. But, you cannot speak for the rest of us who do want to be an informed person about what is going on in our country.

    I have also seen all of the info on the internet about the "missing birth cerificate" that could document Obama's right to run for the president. I have hundreds of questions about that and the main one is this:
    What is Obama hiding that he does not want revealed?
    Keep in mind that this young man had millions of dollars donated to him for his campaign run versus the much less amount that McCain had for his campaign.

    Maybe we should we be asking just where did all that money come from?
    I have read and heard rumors that Obama received hundreds of thousands of dollars from different mob groups. True or False? Why is no one questioning that?

    Mr. Strang is bringing out some good points about this situation. I do believe that if McCain had won, there would still be some issues that would have to be answered.
    If any of you really knew Pastor John Hagee, you would know that he and many other pastors who are not afraid to boldly stand up and speak out, then you would know that he would be asking for a swift accounting from our governmental bodies to investigate this situation.

    Think back to when Senator Grassley demanded an accounting of financial statements from six major ministries. Some complied immediately, without hesitation, some took more time and tried to delay the information and there has been a couple who has deliberately withheld the information that the Senate Finance Committee requested.
    My question to those two were:
    What are you hiding? I no longer watch either of those two ministries on television. Would I sow money into those two? Absolutely not!

    I voted for John McCain, not because he is white, but because I want to make sure that we do not kill anymore babies during partial birth abortions. I want a president who will not change laws that says it is okay for there to be same sex marriages. I want a president who will be a moral person and who will set a good example for this country.
    I want a president who will not think it is okay for our teachers to teach our children and our grandchildren that same sex relationships is okay, even for kids.

    Well, what do you want?
    It seems to me that most of you just want something to bicker about.
    Don't blame Mr. Strang for doing his research and voicing his opinion about this research.

    We all need to be glad that we are living in a counry where we have the right to have a check and balance system in place.
    In many other countries, the people do not get to have a voice in who or what or their country is run. Think about that!!

    I see that some people on here have done their research and some have not.
    Some of you are concerned, some of you are curious, some of you just plain want something to gripe about; but on Dec. 15 when the Electoral College convenes and they make the final decision as to who will be president, then maybe you will have gotten what you wished for.
    But, remember, we all will be stuck with that decision for the next 4 years.

    Even Focus on the Family is crumbling--less hate, thank God.

    If it was God's will or choice to put the man that He wanted into the office, then there would be no need to have a voting system.

    In the O.T. and the N.T. there have always been rulers that were evil or good. Herod made sure that all the babies up to 2 years of age were murdered because he was afraid there would be a king that would take his place. That king would have been Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

    King Nebuchadnezzar was an evil king. Hitler was an evil ruler.
    Did God put these men in their positions of power? Absolutely not!!

    All I can say about those cancelling their subscriptions is read about Noah and the Ark. Many made fun of him while he built it, and only 8 people and the animals were saved when the floods came.

    There isn't any hope for those who voted not only for the most liberal man to ever take office, but, who also gave us more liberals in our Congress. Was this God's will? If some of you who call yourselves Christians, truly know the Lord, you wouldn't have voted the way you did. Sure, you can blame President Bush all you want. He's made his share of mistakes, but, I ask you this? Are you safer today than you were prior to 9/11? I think you are. Do you still have freedom of speech? I think you do.

    All I can say, is Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. Nor what they have done for putting this man in office.

    If he's truly a citizen then this shouldn't even be an issue. He should've been forthcoming from the onset when some were requesting is birth certificate. John McCain had no problem proving his citizenship, so what's the problem with barack obama? Why is he fighting this so hard if he has nothing to hide?

    Just as he did the entire time of the campaign, he was shielded by those who were blinded and the main street media who chose to ignore the truth and report it to Americans.

    God help this great nation. I fear for us and our freedoms. Obama's election has emoboldened the far left radicals from every walk of life and it will only wax worse.

    I'm appalled at the number of Christians and Catholics who voted for Obama, when he stood against everything they hold, or held, sacred in this life.

    I also suspect that many of you were warned, but, chose to disregard the truth when the Lord tried to open your eyes. Lord, have mercy on this once great nation!

    It always amazes me that fundamentalists don't notice that they are using fear instead of hope as a tool. It would be interesting to create a Perl script that would analyze a text for fearfulness or hopefulness. Strang, would you scan your own magazines? Would you pay attention?

    Wow! It is a couple of days later and I have come back to read the comments again. Scary stuff! How convenient it seemed for some of you to grab hold of the idea that it is a racial bias to expect legal documentation from the man who would hold our highest office. How hypocritical to hear some of you accuse Steve of hatred while your own venom and insults are dripping right off my computer screen from your written words. My thanks to all of you who were able to keep the discussion logical. Some of you brought out some very good points to consider on both sides.

    Halfway through the comments, my stomach was sick. But then, toward the end, I began to see some humor in it. Here was the picture being painted of Steve using some of your very own words: He brings reproach to the kingdom. He is hateful, bitter, mean, wicked, biased, racist. He has lost his way and spreads nasty rumors. He loves money, yet looks like a hobo, acts like Chicken Little, yet only wrote the article to make himself look good. Thanks for the laugh! It was either that, or cry from embarrassment over some of the people representing the church.

    But now I’m asking myself, what is at the core of this over-reaction by some to any logical discussion on Obama? I’m pretty much immune by now to hateful rhetoric. But hatred mixed with pomposity will never be tolerated by my system. How very pompous to tear down a brother on the Internet and then cast yourself as the pious one who will continue to pray for him. Sheeesh--what an ugly and embarrassing church we so often are!

    A legal note: The Obama campaign and the state of Hawaii posted the necessary and requisite legal documentation of his birth. It has already been done. The problem is there is nothing that would satisfy those who do not want him to be president. Any subsequent documentation would be questioned; if it looked authentic it would be deemed forged. Second, as McCain admitted at the last debate his position and Obama's on gay marriage is exactly the same. We are commanded to tell the truth, even if we don't like it.

Let judgement begin at the house of God .Ourjob is to lift up Jesus and if there is persistence in denigrating the President-Elect be very sure that the world we need to win for the Lord will not see Him but the bitterness and nastiness emerging from the followers of Christ . Mr. Strang as a responsible Christian leader call a halt in the name of Jesus to the hate-mongering pray for the President Elect and let God have his way. The behaviour of Christians is attaching a very partisan label to their behaviour and they are not building up the body of Christ . Let him who has ears hear what the word says

    Charisma has become a joke and it is attracting fringe elements to this blog who care nothing about Christianity. In fact in their defense of their radical views toward an elected leader they either leave God out or try to manipulate His word to fit their desires.
    The church must repent for its desire to be all about politics and not about the lord. Why are you afraid? God has not given us the spitit of fear. Why are you so worried about President-Elect Obama? The word tells us to be anxious for nothing.

    I will never ever never subscribe to this magazine again. Strang, you are ridiculous. What next? What next will you and your haters come up with next? Get over it!! Your GOP lost. If you had spent much of your time working on "How to bring respect to the Republincan party" maybe they might have won. Instead, things never change you continue to spew hatered and you the worst thing of all you do in the name of Christianity!! Shame on you, you hate mongers. If you truly pray and seek God you would not be show so much hate. I'm done with you and your magazine.     I have an idea for Mr. Strang and all of the other Christians who have let hate take over their spirit because of an election.
    Spend the next four years on the mission field. This will accomplish two things:

    First, it will get you out of the counry and away from the President that you seem to loathe and who you cannot bring yourself to stop spreading rumors about and obviously refuse to pray for according to God's command.

    Second, you will be able to feed and clothe the poor while spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ (if you can subdue the spirit that is currently within you). As someone who has been on the mission field and wllingly lived in austere conditions, I can tell you that after those four years, you will not be the same. You will come away with a deeper understanding of who God is and the way you are acting now will seem so ridiculous and wordly.

    Ms. Patricia I have no problem with them asking for anybody record the point i was trying to make is he gave everything he needed to give and still you and others have a problem with what he gave. So what you all need to do begin to pray for our President because he have a long road ahead of him, and I know God is going to be with him through all of this. Me and all of the prayer warriors all over are praying for our President Barack Obama and his family that God would encamp His angels around President Barack Obama and his family and let no hurt harm or danger come to them and may our Lord and Savior lift up a standard against any evil person that try to stop the work of God. May God be with each and every person thats on the Lord side Amen

You see Rosa Park sat so Martin Luther King could walk and Martin Luther King walked so that Barack Obama could run and he WON and I am soo happy. Anonymous 12:29 you seem bitter, angry, and unloving every thing that Jesus is not. You see Jesus was very Liberal he was a socialist you see he was about helping the people not turning his back on them. You see God is a loving God, He is a caring God. Those that are struggling with their lifestyle, those that are having abortions, God love them He hate the sin, but we as christians are suppose to pray for them and minister to them not act selfrighteous like we've been good all our life. No you pray for them, and help them get back on the right track because many of them don't know the Lord so they do what they want to do, so my brother stop criticizing and have a Christlike mind and began to treat your brother and sister with respect even if they don't respect you,you respect them because you are a christian.
